Do I need my own OpenAI API Key?
Yes. EchoWrite is a "Bring Your Own Key" application. This ensures strict privacy (we never see your data) and guarantees you get the lowest possible price directly from OpenAI.
How much does the API cost?
It is incredibly affordable. OpenAI's Whisper API costs $0.006 per minute.
This means you can transcribe over 2 hours of audio for less than $1. For typical daily usage, your monthly bill will likely be just a few cents.
Can I use it offline without paying APIs?
Yes! EchoWrite supports downloading and running Whisper models locally on your PC. This is completely free (usage-wise), offline, and private. Note that local models require a decent CPU or GPU for best speed.
Is EchoWrite a subscription?
No. EchoWrite is a one-time purchase. Once you buy a license, you own the software significantly cheaper than monthly subscription services that resell the same API.
Is my voice data private?
Absolutely. EchoWrite processes your audio locally to prepare it, then sends it directly to OpenAI using your personal key. Your audio and transcriptions never touch our servers.
Additionally, OpenAI states that data submitted via their API is not used to train their models by default.
Does it work on Mac or Linux?
Currently, EchoWrite is built natively for Windows 10 and Windows 11 to ensure maximum performance and system integration. Mac support is not currently planned.
